Shortly after I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2011, I started tweeting about it anonymously @double_whammied. Eventually, I began writing about it not-so-anonymously for TODAY.com (I’m a freelance journalist so this was a natural progression).
I also began to explore the whole mess at SingleShotSeattle, a blog I started a couple of years ago when I was writing the Single Shot column for the now-defunct Seattle P-I. Anyway, now that I’m done with radiation and have a bit more time on my hands, I figured it might be best to compartmentalize things. Keep the single stuff over at Single Shot and keep the breast cancer crap over here.
So welcome to my brand new blog, Double Whammied, where I’ll be discussing my experience with breast cancer (and its delightful treatment!), posting information about new findings and research, talking about the trials and tribulations of dating when you’re bald, boobless and just a wee bit bitter about the whole cancer thing. And most of all, trying to process what the fuck I just went through.
Cheers and thanks for stopping by!
Congrats! I hear ya, sistah!
Looking forward to the new blog!

My first comment – I’m so excited!
Thanks for the lovely note, Renn. Will try to be just as inappropriate, angry and (hopefully) informative as I was over at http://singleshotseattle.wordpress.com/
Oh DIANE!!!! I love that you are doing this… You make me laugh and I do swear we are going to tag team from your coast to mine on a nutty book. You single, me “married” and separated while my “husband” immediately decided HE was single…. Think of a title and we can co-author. If Stella had to get back her groove, we need to figure out how to get our MOJO back…. post altered body in a land already flooded with women of a certain age……. mine being a higher number than yours!!!
Love this and love to you,
AnneMarie
Diane, thank you so much for this blog. I admire you and you have made me laugh so many times during this horrible bc trip. (I finished teatment in December and am also now doing the five year estrogen sucking drug.) I’ve often referred my friends to your blog telling them “If you want to know what having cancer is like for me, here it is!” Wishing you all the best.
Trying to stay out from under the coffee table,
Nancy
Hi, just finished laughing and crying as I read your blogs. I’m a 63 year old male 4&1/2 years out of lung cancer, with new lymph node cancer issues. Love your sense of humor, hate belonging to the club, but thanks for brightening my spirits for a bit. I WILL SURVIVE!
Thanks for the lovely note, Brent (you silver fox, you). So sorry to hear about the new cancer but it sounds like you’re doing everything you can, i.e., laughing, crying and, yes, surviving. Fingers crossed we’ll both be through with this crappy club (talk about steep initiation fees) very soon. Take care and all the best.
